REMEMBERING TOMIE on February 17, 2021

An Ash Wednesday art-mail from 2014.

Tomie would often tell the story that his family would go to church on the morning of Ash Wednesday to get ashy crosses drawn on their foreheads.

The family would return home and the children would go to school. But, before leaving for elementary school, Tomie would find one of his father’s ashtrays so that Tomie could touch up his cross. He wanted his classmates to notice his cross.

Tomie loved the theatrical aspect of church. (Bob)
